After nine hours of work on the back parlor yesterday (which actually translated to about 27 woman-hours, between the two of us and the two friends who came over to help), it was done.
Done.
As in finished.
Well, okay, there's still the matter of finding a frame for The Lady of the House and painting up to the edge of the frame, but in all other things, the back parlor is done.
For those who may not recall, this is what the back parlor looked like during the regime of our DPOs:
You can't really grasp the true horror of the brown grasscloth wallpaper or the dull brown wall-to-wall that may have, once, been a more interesting color, but resembled little more than mud when we got to it. And the trim. The trim. The ugly mustard-coffee trim. That bane of my existence. The trim.
The same view, this afternoon, once the sun came out:
Note the green walls. Note the white, white (SUPERWHITE) trim. Note the lack of carpet.
Oh, the trim. The white, white trim. It makes me so happy.
A few more photos, taken this evening, once we had gone forth in a frenzy of celebration to purchase frames for some of our prints. Not only is our back parlor finished, but it has decorations. I feel like I'm living in the Sims, just a little. Except that the shopping music for decor is not nearly as interesting, and sometimes harrowing (Xmas music... November 7... augggh).
We're so excited about the house right now that we'll probably strip wallpaper in the front parlor next weekend. That should be fun. There's a chance that there's a second mural in there -- must be careful not to ruin it. Otherwise, we'll be picking a color for in there (yes, we have narrowed the selection) soon. I'm hoping to finish the front parlor by the end of the month. We have the long Thanksgiving weekend, after all!
