The Dining Room

As of the weekend of 11/1/2003, we had a functional dining room. It required the stripping up of a carpet that reeked of incontinent dog and was, in fact, still damp in spots (probably from the DPOs' last-minute steam-cleaning adventures, but it was still pretty gross). We're leaving the Liberace wallpaper for the nonce, although it is regrettably stained and peeling in spots (and we're going to have to scrape the application of said wallpaper off the hot water pipe that runs up to the second floor for heating, because, well, its crisp and brown and welded to the pipe).

The floor, however, was a fascinating find all on its own!

Here we have multiple floor views of parts of this room (our kitchen table is currently in the middle of it, so that's why I was playing around the edges). That's a kind of light brown around the edges, with black as the second color, and red in the middle (in case the color values aren't coming through). Note the black rectangle at the doorway -- that door leads to the kitchen, and the black rectangle shows signs of something having been fastened there. Maybe a metal plate for wear-and-tear? Or maybe something else entirely. I have no idea.

Meanwhile, we also uncovered the truly spectacular floor grille from an earlier heating system:

Plus, have I mentioned our coffered ceiling?

And here's the built-in china cabinet (complete with wallpaper in the back... What Were They Thinking?):

Despite multiple tries, I haven't been able to successfully (and clearly) photograph the drawerpulls on the built-in. We'll try again soon, possibly with a tripod.
