Small Disasters: July 27, 2005

I got home late the night of July 27, 2005, to discover a chunk of tree lying on a chunk of the House of Red Doors.

The damage wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been. The front edge of the front porch roof was crunchified -- there were a couple of pieces of wood sticking up at odd angles. The upper floors weren't hurt at all, though the trim at the edge of the top roof was damaged.

So, the tree guys came and went the following morning. It took remarkably little time to deal with such a large limb. For your edification/entertainment, I provide pictures of the House of Red Doors getting too friendly with its tree.

Taking a close look at the tree, I think we can all see why it fell down. And why the tree guys told us that it's a goner tree. They also told us that they'd told our DPOs, in fall 2003 (when we were buying the house) that the tree ought to come down before it fell down.
